Soft, fluffy, and impossibly fragrant, these cinnamon rolls are the ultimate comfort treat. With a rich, buttery dough, a sweet cinnamon-sugar swirl, and a glossy icing finish, they’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or any time you need a little sweetness.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 eggs, room temperature
- ⅓ cup salted butter, melted
- 4½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 pinch salt
- ½ cup white sugar
- 3 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1½ cups brown sugar
- 3½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
- ½ cup butter, softened
- Optional: store-bought icing, halved pecans, or chocolate chips
Method:
1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm milk. Let sit for 5 minutes, until bubbles form on top.
2. Make the dough: Stir in the eggs, melted butter, and salt. Gradually add the flour, kneading until smooth and elastic.
3. First rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
4. Prepare the filling: Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
5. Shape the rolls: Roll the dough to ¾-inch thickness on a floured surface. Spread softened butter over the top and sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Gently roll the dough from the long side into a log.
6. Cut and second rise: Use dental floss to cut the log into 12 equal rolls. Arrange in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
7. Bake: Preheat the oven to 175°C (347°F) and bake rolls for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
8. Finish: Spread icing over warm rolls and sprinkle with optional pecans or chocolate chips. Serve warm.
