An unhurried journey through sunlit coasts & storied cities
Amber Liaqat on exploring Spain with intention – tracing its timeless beauty, layered history, and coastal charm, while embracing the quiet art of lingering just a little longer.
Travelling, for me, is an intentional pursuit—one rooted in personal growth, immersive experiences, and the creation of memories that go far beyond simple sightseeing. Exploring new destinations and cultures is not just a passion; it is a way of understanding the world more deeply. On my most recent journey, I discovered southern Spain—an endlessly surprising region where natural beauty and lesser-known architectural wonders make every moment feel worthwhile. With its rich history, sweeping landscapes, stunning coastlines, and picturesque towns, Spain offers countless opportunities for meaningful exploration.
Marbella is undoubtedly worth a visit. I was drawn to its seamless blend of a charming Andalusian old town, elegant promenades, and the unmistakable glamour of Puerto Banús. The dining scene is equally compelling, ranging from traditional tapas to relaxed beachside restaurants, all complemented by near-perfect weather.

Another favourite was Málaga, a vibrant port city along the Costa del Sol, just 45 minutes from Marbella. With a history spanning over 2,800 years, Málaga is known for its sun-drenched beaches and as the birthplace of Picasso. Founded by the Phoenicians, the city is home to remarkable historical layers—from the Moorish Alcazaba to well-preserved Roman ruins—each telling a story of its rich and diverse past.

Seville, the captivating capital of Andalusia, is a city that pulses with culture and history. Known for its passionate flamenco and striking Moorish architecture, it remains one of Spain’s most compelling cultural destinations.

As the country’s fourth-largest city, Seville is home to three UNESCO World Heritage sites: the grand Seville Cathedral, the iconic Giralda Tower, and the breathtaking Real Alcázar palace—each a testament to the city’s enduring legacy.

Spain’s capital, Madrid, is a city of undeniable grandeur. From world-class art museums and exceptional cuisine to expansive green parks and Europe’s largest royal palace, Madrid offers something for every kind of traveller. Yet, beyond its landmarks, it is the city’s warmth and inclusivity that truly set it apart. The historic heart of Habsburg Madrid, centred around the elegant Plaza Mayor, leads seamlessly to the baroque Royal Palace and Armory, where centuries of history come vividly to life.

To truly understand Spain, one must experience it in stillness and time—to wander its streets, surrender to its rhythm, and awaken to the quiet depth of its soul. It is a country that does not rush to reveal itself, but rewards those who take their time—with beauty, depth, and a quiet kind of magic that stays with you long after you’ve left.
